We are making a difference

Charity

The FAAP holds many events for fund-raising, as well as participates in year-round activities which benefit charities here in the US and in the Philippines. These include raising money for disaster relief programs, women’s shelters, libraries, and hospitals, and helping out at local food banks, soup kitchens, and other various programs.

At our organization, we take pride in offering support to our members. We know the importance of having a network of people who understand and can offer advice regarding difficult situations. We strive to be a source of comfort and guidance during hard times.

For Our Members

Bayanihan (pronounced as IPA: [bajanihan]) is a Filipino term taken from the word bayan, referring to a nation, town or community. The whole term bayanihan refers to a spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective.

For Our Neighborhood

The Calamity Fund allows the FAAP to respond quickly whenever a calamity event hits the Philippines. Examples of these events include the typhoons Haiyan (2013), Rolly (2020), and Ulysses (2020)

For The Philippines

Culture

The FAAP affords the local communities access to the Filipino culture. Our participation in cultural events, including Dance Troupe performances, local festivals, cuisine experiences, and other activities serve as the medium for learning about the Filipinos through cultural experiences. You can watch our Dance Troupe performing at the Pittsburgh Folk Festival, check out our cookbook, “Cooking with the Filipinos of Pittsburgh, PA.”, or visit our cultural installations.

Dance Troupe

Our Dance Troupe is a cultural, and folkloric dance ensemble. Its varied and exciting repertoire reflects the breadth and depth of Philippine culture and history. Its basic philosophy believes in the importance of authentic audio-visual presentation through music, costumes, and choreography.

Dance Troupe

At our local festivals, we proudly promote the Filipino culture through stage performances. Our performances include traditional dance routines, cultural music, and theatrical interpretations. Through these performances, we strive to bring together the community to share in their appreciation of Filipino culture.

Festival

Filipino cuisine is a unique blend of cultures that come together in a variety of dishes. The influences of local, Spanish, and Chinese cuisine create an explosion of flavors for the diner to experience. By promoting Filipino culture through its cuisine, we are able to share our culinary heritage, and provide our visitors a taste of what makes the Philippines special.

Education

The FAAP seeks to enhance the educational achievements of its members through the Simplicio Maramba Scholarship Award. It also participates in the Federal Executive Board’s yearly Asian American Heritage Celebration. Future plans include the establishment of a Filipino School that will provide students with a deeper understanding of the Philippines

We honor, each year, outstanding senior high school students who are active members of the association. The FAAP considers for this award students who advance recognition of the Filipino people through excellent academic achievements, outstanding extra-curricular activities, and participation in our various programs.

We are proudly exhibiting a room staging installation at the University of Pittsburgh to expose the students and school visitors to the vibrant culture of the Philippines.
