The FAAP holds many events for fund-raising, as well as participates in year-round activities which benefit charities here in the US and in the Philippines. These include raising money for disaster relief programs, women’s shelters, libraries, and hospitals, and helping out at local food banks, soup kitchens, and other various programs.
The FAAP affords the local communities access to the Filipino culture. Our participation in cultural events, including Dance Troupe performances, local festivals, cuisine experiences, and other activities serve as the medium for learning about the Filipinos through cultural experiences. You can watch our Dance Troupe performing at the Pittsburgh Folk Festival, check out our cookbook, “Cooking with the Filipinos of Pittsburgh, PA.”, or visit our cultural installations.
The FAAP seeks to enhance the educational achievements of its members through the Simplicio Maramba Scholarship Award. It also participates in the Federal Executive Board’s yearly Asian American Heritage Celebration. Future plans include the establishment of a Filipino School that will provide students with a deeper understanding of the Philippines
It has been our dream to have our own school for Philippine School – for conducting classes in Philippine languages, history, geography, arts and traditions. This will soon be realized with the acquisition of our own Philippine Center.
